Kouhaku is an annual music show on the New Year's Eve produced by Japanese public broadcaster NHK and broadcast on both television and radio, nationally and internationally by NHK's networks and some overseas (mainly cable) broadcasters which bought the program. The show ends shortly before midnight (when NHK switches to a frenzy of "Happy New Year" greetings from around the nation).
Literally "Red and White Song Battle," the program divides the most popular music artists of the year into competing teams of red and white. The "red" team or akagumi is composed of all female artists (or groups with female vocals), while the "white" team or shirogumi is all male (or groups with male vocals). The honor of performing on Kōhaku is strictly by invitation, so only the most successful J-Pop artists and enka singers can perform. In addition to the actual music performances, the costumes, hair-styles, makeup, dancing, and lighting are also important. Even today, a performance on Kōhaku is said to be a big highlight in a singer's career because of the show's large reach.
This year YUI is among the list of female performers to appear on Kouhaku!! This is her first performance on the famed program. It is said she might be performing LOVE & TRUTH, but it is not certain as of now. As for now, we can hope for her performance to be awesome (as always).
Other female performers include Ayumi Hamsaaki, BoA, Koda Kumi, Namie Amuro, Mika Nakashima, Ai Otsuka, Angela Aki, and Leah Dizon. Other artists include mimiharu GT, the brilliant green, Perfume, Every Little Thing, and many more!

Recently, a different version of the LOVE & TRUTH PV has been released! It's a piano instrumental version, no vocals, just instrumental. The PV itself has a few new scenes, movie-wise and a few 'deleted' scenes from the first release of the PV. If you look closely, you'll be able to read the book that YUI reads, which is actually the translated lyrics for the song itself (also keep an eye out for some funny 'engrish' mistakes). Enjoy! YUI's 11th single, LOVE & TRUTH, will be released September 26th. The title song will be used for Erika Sawajiri's new film, Closed Note. This is yet another connection between the actress/singer and YUI, as they both played Kaoru Amane in Taiyou no Uta (Erika was in the drama, while YUI was in the film). The title song is a slow ballad with strings accompaniment, while JAM is rumoured to be a fast, upbeat rock song. My Generation will also be included with a rearranged acoustic version, a must-have on every YUI single.

The PV was recently released for LOVE & TRUTH. It shows two sides of YUI. The first YUI that you see is a shy girl in a cream-colored dress. She reads a book throughout the PV. The darker rockish YUI is found in what looks like to be the sewers or some underground hideaway. As she plays her electric guitar, ghostly beings accompany her on the strings in the background. Scenes from the movie itself is also featured in the PV. All in all, this is a perfectly executed PV for a perfect song. Enjoy!
