The boxes apparently signify the ‘layers’ of safety around YUI, how she had always been sheltered, but now she’s stepping out of it so she can become more independent! Or maybe it’s a pictorisation of the expression ‘thinking out of the box’ or so...
The title of the album is a reference to The Beatles’ song ‘Yesterday’, obviously, as YUI admits to being a huge fan of them.

CAN'T BUY MY LOVE is the second album released by YUI. The album was released in two formats; The regular CD only version and a limited edition CD+DVD format. The DVD contains the music video's of the singles from YUI's first album FROM ME TO YOU. The first week sales of this album outbeat her first album's entire sales it received.

YUI's first album contains four of her previously released singles. It's happy line was not included in this album. As this album sold 180,657 copies in 2006, it became the #70 album of the year. By the time its chart run had ended, FROM ME TO YOU had sold 222,515 copies. However, after the release of YUI's second album, CAN'T BUY MY LOVE, FROM ME TO YOU began appearing in the Oricon Top 30 again - an incredibly rare phenomenon on the Japanese charts, especially since the begining of the 21st Century. During the weeks it spent in the top 30 after CAN'T BUY MY LOVE's release, FROM ME TO YOU managed to sell another 9,625 copies, bringing the total album sales up to 232,140 copies.

LOVE & TRUTH is YUI's 11th single, which was used as the theme song to the film Closed Note, starring Erika Sawajiri. This is her second connection to the actress, the first being Taiyou no Uta (Erika starred as Kaoru in the Japanese Dorama, while YUI starred as Kaoru in the film.)

My Generation / Understand is the 10th single released by YUI, and her first double A-side. This is also her first single to reach #1 on the Oricon Charts. My Generation was used as the theme song to the drama Seito Shokun!, while Understand was used as the movie Sidecar ni Inu's ending theme song.

CHE.R.RY is the ninth single released by YUI. It broke her personal record for highest first week sales, exceeding the 75,390 copies sold during the first week of sales for Rolling Star. The song also overtook Utada Hikaru's Flavor of Life for number one on Chaku-Uta downloads. Its PV has peaked at number two for downloads.
The title track CHE.R.RY was used as the KDDI au Listen Mobile Service CM song. The single was released in both CD only and a limited edition CD+DVD format, with the DVD featuring a different version of CHE.R.RY than on the DVD for CAN'T BUY MY LOVE. CHE.R.RY ~YUI Acoustic Version~ and CHE.R.RY ~LISMO! Version~ (music video) were offered as free presents to people with au cellphones on the mobile music service from 2007.02.22 until 2007.03.31. The acoustic version was later placed on YUI's 10th single My Generation / Understand.

Rolling Star is the seventh single of singer/songwriter Yui released January 17, 2007, and her first under the official Studioseven Recordings label. The title song Rolling Star is used as fifth opening of the popular anime series Bleach, being Yui's second connection, as her third single Life was used as the fifth closing theme.

This single has been certified Gold by RIAJ.

I remember you is YUI's seventh single. It was released in two editions, the first of many other singles to follow; a CD+DVD limited edition and a CD only regular edition. The single carries the catalogue codes SRCL-6421 and SRCL-6422. This single saw a lot of success due to YUI's previous single being used as the movie Taiyou no Uta's theme song Good-bye days. Because this single sold 65,741 copies in 2006, it became the #139 single of the year. The PV for the title track is a reminiscence of her role in Taiyou no Uta. This is obvious by the scenery of the PV and the surfer in the PV, who is supposed to be Kaoru's boyfriend.

YUI's 5th major single release. This single is usually listed as being written by YUI for Amane Kaoru. It was the #36 single of 2006. Good-bye days was used as the theme song for the film Taiyou no Uta (タイヨウのうた, A Song of the Sun. Also known as Song to the Sun, Midnight Sun), which YUI also starred in. She credits herself as YUI for Amane Kaoru because she wrote this song for the main character (Amane Kaoru) of the movie.
Skyline was written as the main B-side of the single, was used as an insert song for Taiyou no Uta. It's Happy Line was written before Yui's major debut and released as an indies single, it was one of the songs that she sung at her audition for Sony. It was used as an insert song for Taiyou no Uta.

TOKYO is YUI's fifth single, and the lead-in single for her debut album FROM ME TO YOU. This single reached #15 on Oricon charts and in total told app. 20,123 copies.
It has been said that the title track recounts her feelings as she left her hometown of Fukuoka to go to Tokyo, pursuing her music dreams.

Tomorrow's way is the second single by YUI. The song was also featured as the ending theme in the Japanese live-action movie Hinokio (ヒノキオ). The boy who appears in the song's music video is Hongo Kanata, who also stars in the movie.

feel my soul is YUI's second single and first major release. It was used as the theme song to the Fuji TV drama Fukigen na Gene (不機嫌なジーン, Grumpy Gene). It reached #8 on Oricon charts and charted for 13 weeks. This single sold 107,930 units and reached #95 on the end-of-year charts for 2005.

YUI's first independent single, released under Leaftlet Records. Pressing was limited to only 2000 copies. The song "I Know" was later republished by Sony Records into her debut album From Me to You. Before YUI's popularity rose after her first single, this CD could be found on Yahoo JP Auctions going for around ￥1000. Now most copies go above ￥40000, over $350 USD.
